Coco Channel is a popular revolutionary figure of her time. Her persona remains a powerful force in the world of women brand clothing to this day. Coco is a pioneer in fashion. She believed in “expensive simplicity”-simple yet costly designs. She has been acknowledged one of the most influential people of the 20th century.

1. Little black dress was designed by Coco Channel in 1920s. Today lots of women have such a dress in their wardrobes. Fashion observers believe it a “rule of fashion” that every woman must own a simple, elegant black style dress. Edith Piaf had a sheath dress throughout her career. Critics believed that the dress focused audience more on her singing not on appearance. “A fashion that does not reach the streets is not a fashion. 2. She adored pockets! Coco Chanel was very enchanted with pockets. Pockets were the basic feature of her designs in women handbags. Enchanting designs make them versatile for different women. Her fashion bags exude a beauty of simplicity across time and space.

3. It was just a hobby. Before Coco became a fashion legend, she used to work as a clerk in a tiny hosiery store. Sometimes legends start from humble beginnings to grandeur! Chanel started her career by designing hats. Later it became a deeper hobby. Hats were innovative and fancy and soon became a hit among aristocracy in Paris.

4. Did you know that she had started the Sun tan! Sun tanning didn’t become popular by accident. In 1923 when Channel was on a cruise she was burnt by sun rays. Coco managed to make it seem fashionable – a wonderful example that it is all in the attitude! “Success is made with what can’t be learned”(Channel).

5. Hotel Ritz in Paris was her home for more than 30 years. German officer Dincklage (her boy-friend) made arrangements for her to stay in the hotel. She met many well-known celebrities Salvador Dali, Picasso, Romy Schneider, Churchill, Stravinsky, Jean Cocteau, Paul Morand, the Duke of Westminster, André Malraux, Erik Satie and etc. She lived always free and often alone, like all remarkable individuals.
