To make your feel comfortable and protected you need to make the right choice of socks. Every day your feet produce about 10 ml of sweat every day, and these are the socks that help to keep your skin dry. When you choose the material for your socks you need to buy those ones that will aid in this matter.
As soon as you get to your local store you will be astounded at how many different sock materials manufacturers offer. There can be natural, synthetic and mixed fibers. The natural fabrics will include cotton, linen, rayon, wool and silk. The most cushiony, breathable and soft material is perhaps cotton which is also the most popular fabric for socks. In addition, it resists heat and absorbs moisture.
Another great material for socks is linen. It is really lightweight and durable material. The level of moisture absorption is equal to that of cotton. Rayon comes from modified cellulose. These socks are not as durable as linen, but they have a great feel and are easy to wash.
Silk is the most luxurious of all the natural materials and perhaps the most highly priced. This is a lightweight fabric. As expensive and yet soft, light and chic is cashmere. Because it is a thread made of goats’ fur, it is that expensive. However, these socks are the warmest and the softest ever. The thread is almost weightless. Nevertheless, the problem with these socks is that you are required to handwash them to keep in good condition.
And finally wool, the excellent insulating material that helps to regulate body temperature and keeps the skin either cool or warm depending on the season of the year. Wool socks resist fungi and do not accumulate odor. Worsted, Merino, Angora are the common wools used for manufacturing socks.
We have discussed natural fibers and now let us proceed with the synthetic materials. These will include nylon, spandex, acrylic, polyester and polypropylene. Both casual and athletic socks are mostly made of acrylic thread as they tend to absorb moisture. In addition, they are durable, easy to wash and feel soft.
Another strong and elastic material is nylon which is often used for fancy and men’s socks. Other kinds of synthetic fibers are usually blended with natural threads to make the socks more durable and warm. The other synthetic fibers add some special properties to the socks. For instance, polyester dries quickly and easily, polypropylene is a strong material, spandex is stretchy and adds comfortable fit to the socks.
Whatever material you choose it is your feet that need the comfort, health and durability. Additionally, remember that you should not try to save money on cheap and low quality socks.
