3 Cool Ways to Work Winter into Your Summer Wardrobe

Alright, I’m just gonna say it: I miss winter. I miss the cold weather, the excessive layering, and throwing on a beanie to hide my bad hair days. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer- waking up at noon, picnics in the park, that whole no school thing, all great- but I miss wearing black and layering outfits with cardigans. I guess what I’m trying to say is: I miss winter fashion. A lot.

That said, in an effort to subdue my winter wardrobe withdrawal, I decided to show you guys how you can incorporate some winter wardrobe staples into your summer outfits. Interested? Read on!

1. Scarves as Head Wraps

(Scarf, Tank, Skirt, Flats, Ring)

Contrary to popular belief, scarves are not strictly winter items. As a handy way to add color and interest to your outfits, scarves should not be limited to one season. If you own a few lighter scarves in fun colors, you can oftentimes pull the ol’ switcheroo and wear them in the spring as well as the summer.

One thing I like to do with my lighter scarves is make them into turban-esque headbands. The look is unique and edgy and can totally shake up any outfit. (If you need help figuring out how to tie your scarves into headbands, here is a handy video tutorial that explains it quick and easy.) For my outfit example, I chose a cool floral scarf and paired it with a cute tank/skirt combo. Then I picked out some adorable green ballet flats and a shiny pink ring to pull the outfit together. Wear this outfit and you’ll look classy and edgy at the same time- the best of both worlds.

2. Boots for Summer

(Striped Tank, Shorts, Boots, Fedora, Ring)

Remember those boots you bought last year- the ones you wore almost every day last fall? Or what about those to-die-for fall boots you bought yesterday at that clearance sale? They want to be worn. Now. And while many people think that boots can only work for winter, they’re wrong. If you style your outfit correctly, boots can look pretty darn cute in the summer.

For my outfit example, I picked out some knee-high boots and paired them with a striped tank and cutoffs. To keep your head cool in the sunshine, I picked out an army green fedora, and for your finger, I found a cool gold arrow ring. Throw this outfit on and you’ll be looking and feeling cool, all while rocking a warm winter staple.

3. High Socks in Warm Weather

(Socks, Dress, Headband, Shoes, Ring)

How cute are these knee-high socks I found? I love the fake oxfords on the bottom (yes, they’re part of the sock design); it makes these pretty much the classiest socks in the world. Whether you rock oxford-print or basic black knee socks, the style is something you should think about working into your summer wardrobe. Knee-high socks are not too hot and not too cold, and they instantly class up an outfit.

For my outfit example, I paired the aforementioned long socks with this flowy floral dress. Pair the dress and socks with some cute oxfords, add a bow ring and headband, and you’ll be the cutest thing since Hello Kitty.

Fashion Challenge: Summer Socks

Two weeks ago we challenged you to try summer boots, and now this week, we’re challenging you to rock summer socks! Of course, most people trade out socks for bare feet in the summer, but why not be a trendsetter and get a jump start on one of fall’s hottest trends right now?

Still need to be convinced to pull a pair of socks out of your top drawer this summer? Think about these facts: socks are super cheap, surprisingly versatile, can add color and interest to any outfit, and umm….Tavi’s wearing them.

Tips and Tricks for Rocking Summer Socks

Socks and sandals. Ah, the age-old fashion controversy: is it ever okay to wear socks with sandals? Personally, I think it looks great if worn correctly (e.g. NOT Adidas slip-ons worn with white crew socks). Try pairing a ladylike heeled sandal with neutral-colored socks. Or, if you’re feeling brave, opt for flat sandals like Chloe’s festival-friendly look below:

Thigh-highs. These will be big for fall, but you can get the look now by opting for a lightweight pair, like the ones Liz wears in Picture 3, or some sheer black ones like Rumi’s, below:

Experiment. Try socks with other styles of shoes as well. Alexa Chung does a classic English look with ankle socks and flats here. Also try boots (short and mid-height), or ultra-trendy ankle socks and heels.

Here, I imitated Alexa Chung’s school girl look from the link above. Classics (shirt, bag, flats, pearls) are updated with a fun polka-dot skirt and ruffle-hemmed ankle socks. Think this look isn’t your style? Don’t shy away from summer socks just because you are more rock and roll than ladylike prep. Taylor Momsen rocks sheer knee-highs with total tough-girl edge. No matter what your style, you can work a pair of socks–you just have to experiment a little.

Socks are an indispensable part of our lives. Most of us wear them every day both at work and at home. However, most of us do not know how socks are made.
In fact, there are a number of different ways how socks are actually made. There exist two types of machines that produce socks. There is industrial socks production and home production on special knitting machines. In addition, socks may be knitted with knitted needles or by sewing pies of cloth together.
Mass produced socks are knitted on the circular knitting machines. For production of ribbed socks the needles are arranged on a cylinder, or sometimes on double cylinder. Loops of yarn are interlocked by the needles as cylinder turns. Like when knitted by hand the sock begins from the top up to a toe.
The toe part is left open after the sock is knitted. Then another machine sews the two pieces together and the socks are moved to another machine which checks them for defects. After everything is checked, the socks go for dying. This is also done by special dying machines. There the socks get their colour. Colours wary and this is a great plus for us, the customers.
Next process is socks shaping. This is done by boarding, after which the socks are paired and packaged. Usually before packaging socks are checked for defects once again. As soon as the socks are packaged, they are placed in boxes and get ready for shipment. This is how they get to retailers, like stores or supermarkets.
Handmade socks are done in three ways: by knitting, fabric or crocheting. Have you seen how your grannies knit? They usually have two knitting needles which may sometimes be connected together with the help of plastic tube. There are special knitting patterns that are used by specialists and that can be leaned easily. The knitter may also choose from a variety of yarns; there has even been created a special sock yarn for the lovers of knitting.
Socks may be also made with the help of crochet hook. Different types of these hooks are manufactured nowadays. If you choose to make your socks with crochet hook, you need to choose its size depending on the tread and pattern that you choose. For more convenience, buy double-ended crochet hooks. Usually you will use crochet hooks to create more exquisite varieties of patterns for your socks. Both, knitting needles and crochet hooks may be found online.
In fact, anyone may find online either ready-made socks for purchase, or patterns for hand knitted socks. There you may also get some good advice on how to knit your socks, what yarn to choose and where to buy.
