Be sure to adhere closely to what you think your loved one likes and does not like; use her current jewelry as a basis for what she might want from you. Has she ever looked at items of jewelry before and made comments about them?

Try to check out one of her rings, ideally the one that is on the finger she will be wearing your engagement ring on, and see what size it is. If she does not wear any rings at the moment, you can guess her size by taking a look at one of her gloves or by drawing an outline of her hand and fingers as part of a game.

If you do happen to make mistakes regarding either the type of engagement ring that you buy or the size of it then it is no big deal really because it is always possible to go back and exchange it at a later date. A few days after giving the ring to your partner, just say that you totally understand if she wants to change it and that you will not be upset if she decides to do so.
